1 pound ground beef
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 yellow onion, sliced thin
4 slices American cheese
4 slices Swiss cheese
Texas toast, thick-sliced bread

Instructions

Instructions:
Brown ground beef in a skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper. Set aside.
Sauté onions until deeply golden and fragrant.
Layer each sandwich: one slice Swiss, beef, onions, one slice American, between two slices of buttered Texas toast (butter on the outside).
Cook each sandwich on a griddle or pan until crispy on both sides and cheese is gooey.
Slice in half and serve hot. A melt-in-your-mouth classic!
